Caruso's Dream is a permanent site-specific installation by artists Brian Goggin and Dorka Keehn in downtown San Francisco. The light compositions are inspired by and synchronized to the original recordings of Enrico Caruso. To realize these compositions, I created custom software in Max, Processing, and ChucK. I also integrated the hardware system to control the lights, which plays back the compositions in sync with music broadcast on a low power FM transmitter.
The piece was unveiled on February 23, 2014 in a public art happening attended by thousands of people, with musical performances, acrobats, and the first public showing of the light compositions. The installation is now on display at 55 9th street, and the light compositions can be seen every night from 4pm to 9:30am, in sync with Caruso's music, by tuning in to 90.9 FM (a low power FM broadcast which covers the block).
